Kaiting’s Recommended Resources for
Leander, Cedar Park & North Austin Families
I've put together this collection of resources for families and individuals in Leander, Cedar Park, and North Austin. It includes organizations, programs, and services related to autism, disability, communication, AAC, recreation, family support, and of course, fun things to do in the community!
Lone Star Special Care
This directory is a comprehensive resource for connecting families with ABA therapy, speech, occupational, and physical therapy, as well as mental health and rehabilitation services.
Texas Technology Access Program
TTAP provides free loans of assistive technology, including AAC devices, to people with disabilities across Texas. Families can try different communication devices at home before deciding what might be a good fit.
I've personally used TTAP to trial AAC devices with children with autism, and I love that families can have devices delivered to their homes at no cost. It can be a great place to start if you're wondering whether AAC might support your child's communication.
Heartwood Village
Heartwood Village was created in response to the significant lack of meaningful, high-quality programs for adults with special needs. The participants are part of a community where they participate in meaningful, work and receive purposeful enrichment centered around dignity and purpose.
I have spoken with the founder, and she is a mother of a (now adult) child with special needs, so she deeply understands what is needed and is very passionate and kind!
